Ayurveda Treatment Of Asthma

(Ayurveda Treatment Of Asthma)

Prediabetes

Negative calorie foods

DIET AND LIFESTYLE FOR KIDNEY PATIENTS

Diet to Reverse Hair Loss: Best for Hair Growth

Diet to Reverse Hair Loss: Best for Hair Growth

        Diet to Reverse Hair Loss

In the pursuit of the “perfect” look:

The desire for achieving ethereal beauty has been one of the pursuits in human evolution. As science unearths more elements (either from nature or the lab) the perfect look seems more accessible and hence desirable. The U.S. cosmetics market, for anti-aging products pegged at $80 billion today, is marked to reach more than $114 billion by 2015.
Women – and also men, strive daily to mask blemishes and “imperfections” to project an ageless look. How far these chemicals succeed in their claims is something even the FDA doesn’t care knowing about. Cosmetics it seems are regulated just for safety and not for effectiveness (as claimed). People tend to care less, our skewed short-term symptomatic-solution-seeking minds, getting the instant result that they desire..

        Are Cosmetics the answer?

But are we missing something? Are these products having an actual impact on the person’s appearance? Well to be fair, they are from the outside but not penetrating and changing anything inside. And that is where this doesn’t work out in the long run. The only way you can feel “natural” about your hair or skin, for as long as you live, is when it happens from the inside out. All that processed junk loaded with sugar, salt, starches, oil and chemicals is eating away at your flowing tresses and glowing skin.

Like for the skin, the cells and processes that support strong, vibrant hair depend on a balanced diet. The reason why most miss the triggers is because it takes longer for diet missteps to show on your hair. For eg. Just one week with a poor diet can yield acne flare-ups or dry, sallow skin within days but with hair, it can take a few months for a nutritional deficiency or the effects of a crash diet to show up. On the flip side a healthy diet will take longer to show positive results to your hair, so be patient :).

TOP 11 FOOD TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR:

Here’s a low down of  the “must have” foods for hair loss and the “must avoid” foods that cause hair loss and keep those long tresses flowing:
        MUST HAVE:
        1. Fatty acids rich food: Omega-3 Fatty Acids promote healthy hair growth by nourishing both the hair shaft and follicles, and the cell membranes in your scalp, providing elasticity to your hair.
Foods rich in Omega 3: Flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, tuna, kale, Brussels sprouts, rapeseed oil.
        2. Zinc rich food: It helps regulate testosterone and other hormone levels in the body, maintain production of oil-secreting glands on the scalp, boost tissue growth and repair, keeping your scalp and hair healthy.
Foods rich in Zinc: Chickpeas, wheat germ, oysters, beef, veal liver, roast beef.
        3. Protein rich food: Protein is a main constituent of hair, so having less of this can lead to graying and poor hair health.  For lustrous hair consume high-quality, naturally occurring protein rich diet.
Foods rich in Protein: Greek yogurt, eggs yolks, kale, peanuts, beans, peas, lentils, tofu, chicken, turkey.
        4. Iron rich food: Iron helps deliver blood and critical oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells, including your scalp. Getting iron efficiency (anemia) treated quickly will enhance the health of your hair.
Foods rich in Iron: Dark leafy greens (spinach, Bok Choy), whole grains, beans, red meat, turkey, egg yolks, clams, mussels, oysters, lenthils, prunes.
        5. Vitamins A and C rich foods: Both vitamins trigger hair follicles tosecrete Sebum, an oily substance, which keep the hair rooted and prevent hair loss. Vitamin C also boosts iron production.
Foods rich in Vit. A & C: Swiss chard, spinach, broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, blueberries.
        6. Magnesium rich foods: Deficiency of magnesium contributes to inflammation, which is a major reason for Hair loss in both men and women.
Foods rich in Magnesium: Almonds, spinach, cashews, lentils, brown rice, halibut.
        7. Selenium rich foods:A trace element that helps the body produce selenoproteins, which regulate reproduction, metabolism, DNA synthesis, and immunity, and also stimulates hair follicles to encourage new growth.
Foods rich in Selenium: Brazil nuts, tuna, halibut, shrimp sardines, ham.
        MUST AVOID:
        1. Soy protein shakes: Protein shakes that contain soy proteins are very unhealthy, because soy isolate requires hexane (a petroleum solvent) for refining purpose that can lead to hair loss.
        2. Cholesterol rich eatables: Foods containing high amount of cholesterol and saturated fats increase the DHT(Dihydrotestosterone) levels, an endocrinal secretion, that destroys the hair follicles.
        3. Alcohol, nicotine, caffeine foods: Nicotine and caffeine destroy Vitamin C present in the body. They also inhibit essential nutrients absorption, leading to hair quality degradation, making them brittle, dull, dry and lacklustre.
        4. Chemical Sweeteners and Foods: Sweeteners such as sucrose, fructose and dextrose, present in processed food, destroy essential vitamins such as E, K and C from the body, which are vital for healthy hair.

Having said this, other factors like hormonal imbalances, lack of sleep, stress,  etc. can still affect how your hair looks and feels. Get yourself checked and treated and stick to these tips to feel the difference it brings to the texture, volume and health of your hai

22 Things You Should Avoid To Prevent Kidney Damage.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)- The Silent Killer

Kidney disease accounts for 26 million chronic kidney disease (CKD) adult cases, in the United States alone. People suffering from diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and those who are older than 60 years old are more prone to this dilapidating disease.
Most will have chronic kidney disease for years without realizing it as the early signs can be very subtle and it can take many years to go from chronic kidney disease (CKD) to kidney failure. Most people with CKD live out their lives without ever reaching kidney failure. Even people with stage 3 CKD have about an 80% chance of never having their kidneys fail.

TOP 22 REASONS FOR KIDNEY DAMAGE:

        1. Medications: Long-term use of high doses of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) -prescription painkillers, that contain ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®), or acetaminophen (Tylenol®), has a harmful effect on kidney tissue and structures, causing shrinkage of blood vessels in the kidneys. Diuretics (urine enhancers) medications may also cause excessive water loss, straining the kidneys.
        2. Cigarettes: Smoking has a direct relation to increased protein detected in the urine, affecting kidneys adversely. Diabetes and high blood pressure, diseases having an aggravating impact on kidney damage, are also exacerbated by smoking.
        3. Sugar: Sugar laden sweets do not impact kidneys directly but trigger and worsen other health problems like diabetes. Diabetes and obesity are two of the most common causes of kidney damage.
        4. Contrast Dyes: Dyes used in diagnostic radiology procedures like CT scans, X-rays and angiograms, have serious implications on the kidney, including Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), an abrupt decrease in kidney function. Insist onless toxic or diluted dyes, fluids to out toxins, or drugs to help protect the kidneys from the dye.
        5. High-Sodium foods: Very little Sodium is required to maintain proper fluid balance in our body. Excessive salt intake triggers an avalanche in the body, increasing blood pressure, damaging the kidney’s filters- nephrons, accelerating kidney failure. Kidneys tend to retain water, needed for proper heart function, in order to dilute this excess electrolyte in the bloodstream.
        6. High Blood Pressure: Weight control, exercise, and proper diet can control blood pressure—which puts lot of stress on your kidneys and causes loss of protein. So treating your blood pressure will help protect your kidneys.
        7. Meat: Animal protein metabolism’s acidic residue triggers our body to pull calcium and other mineral salts from the bones, in order to return you to the preferred alkaline state, overstraining kidney functions. Uric acid –a byproduct of high purine foods such as meat, seafood and fish; causes kidney stones and calcium oxalate stones, due to increase in the amount of calcium excreted in urine.
        8. Drug allergies: Allergic reactions put unprecedented load on the kidneys. Avoid medicines that you are allergic to, and ask about a drug’s effects on the kidneys any time you take a newmedication, to avoid kidney damage.
        9. Genetically Modified (GM) foods: Processed foods contain genetically modified ingredients to increase plant’s pest resistance, immunity to herbicides, or improve crop yields. Studies have shown that these foods create a state of hepatorenal (liver and kidney) toxicity. Opt for organically grown produce and avoid common sources of GM ingredients such as processed and prepackaged foods.
        10. Artificial Sweeteners: Though sweeteners assert that they are non-caloric, studies have shown a decline in kidney function with an intake of just two diet sodas per day.
        11. Carbonated Beverages: Foods, like carbonated beverages (with or without artificial sweetener), and energy drinks that are high in phosphates, are known to have a damaging effect on blood vessels in the kidneys, and increase the chances of kidney stone formation.
        12. Dairy Products: Over consumption of dairy products (contain animal proteins), increases the excretion of calcium in the urine, which has been associated with a higher risk of developing kidney stones.
        13. Caffeine: Caffeine in coffee, tea, soda, and foods can stimulate blood flow, increasing blood pressure and stress on the kidneys. If substantially raises the kidney failure prospects of obese and diabetic consumers. Caffeine consumption has also been linked to kidney stone formation by increasing calcium excretion in urine.
        14. High-oxalate Foods: Oxalates, which form oxalate stones, obstruct the flow of urine and damage kidneys. If you are prone to oxalate stones, stay away or moderate foods like nuts, chocolates and spinach.
        15. Gluten inducedGluten intolerant people have shown a higher tendency of gluten-induced kidney damage. So do check your levels regularly.
        16. Vitamin D deficiency:  Vitamin D is not just a vitamin but a steroid hormone that is critical to the health of kidneys and the body in general.  So get out and get a piece of your sun.
        17. Pre-Renal Causes: Lead to decrease in blood supply to the kidney through: (1) hypovolemia- low blood volume due to blood loss;   (2) dehydration- through vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, fever; (3) poor intake of fluids; (4) abnormal blood flow-due to obstruction of the renal artery or vein.
        18. Sepsis: Any bout of infection sends the body’s immune system for a toss. The overwhelming effect causes inflammation, damage and fatal shutdown of the kidneys. So do not ignore common ailment symptoms and get the right treatment early.
        19. Rhabdomyolysis: Muscle fibers, resulting from significant muscle damage due to trauma, crush injuries, and burns, clog the filtering system of the kidneys. Some medications used to treat high cholesterol can also cause rhabdomyolysis.
        20. Multiple Myeloma: Multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer arising from plasma cells, which are normally found in the bone marrow, puts immense strain on the kidney’s filtration and waste disposal functions.
        21. Diseases: Diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, Wegener’s granulomatosis, and Goodpasture syndrome, lead to inflammation of glomeruli, the filtering system of the kidneys, severely impacting its efficiency.
        22. Post Renal Causes: Affect outflow of the urine through: (1) Obstruction of the bladder or the ureters – creates back pressure on the kidneys leading to damage and eventual shut down; (2) Prostatic hypertrophy or prostate cancer- blocks the urethra and prevents the bladder from emptying; (3) Tumors in the abdomen- surround and obstruct the ureters; (4) Kidney stones-For patients with only one kidney present, a sizeable kidney stone may cause the lone kidney to fail.

        Renal causes of kidney failure

        Kidney Failure

        Kidney failure facts.

§  Kidneys are the organs that help filter waste products from the blood. They are also involved in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and red blood cell production in the body.
§  Symptoms of kidney failure are due to the build-up of waste products in the body that may cause weakness, shortness of breath, lethargy, and confusion. Inability to remove potassium from the bloodstream may lead toabnormal heart rhythms and sudden death. Initially kidney failure may cause no symptoms.
§  There are numerous causes of kidney failure, and treatment of the underlying disease may be the first step in correcting the kidney abnormality.
§  Some causes of kidney failure are treatable and the kidney function may return to normal. Unfortunately, kidney failure may be progressive in other situations and may be irreversible.
§  The diagnosis of kidney failure usually is made by blood tests measuring BUN, creatinine, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
§  Treatment of the underlying cause of kidney failure may return kidney function to normal. Lifelong efforts to control blood pressure anddiabetes may be the best way to prevent chronic kidney diseaseand its progression to kidney failure. As we age kidney function gradually decreases over time.

        What are the kidneys?

The kidneys play key roles in body function, not only by filtering the blood and getting rid of waste products, but also by balancing the electrolyte levels in the body, controlling blood pressure, and stimulating the production of red blood cells.

        www.karmaayurveda.com
The kidneys are located in the abdomen toward the back, normally one on each side of the spine. They get their blood supply through the renal arteries directly from the aorta and send blood back to the heart via the renal veins to the vena cava. (The term "renal" is derived from the Latin name for kidney.)
        www.karmaayurveda.com
The kidneys have the ability to monitor the amount of body fluid, the concentrations ofelectrolytes like sodium and potassium, and the acid-base balance of the body. They filter waste products of body metabolism, like urea from protein metabolism and uric acid from DNA breakdown. Two waste products in the blood usually are measured; 1) blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and 2) creatinine (Cr)

        Renal causes of kidney failure
(damage directly to the kidney itself) include:
Sepsis: The body's immune system is overwhelmed from infection and causes inflammation and shutdown of the kidneys. This usually does not occur with simple urinary tract infections.
Medications: Some medications are toxic to the kidney including:
§  Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, and others), and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn)
§  Antibiotics like aminoglycosides gentamicin (Garamycin), tobramycin
        §  lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid)
§  Iodine-containing medications such as those injected for radiology dye studies
Rhabdomyolysis: This is a situation in which there is significant muscle breakdown in the body, and the damaged muscle fibers clog the filtering system of the kidneys. Massive muscle injury may occur because oftrauma, crush injuries, and burns. Some medications used to treat highcholesterol may causerhabdomyolysis.
        Multiple myeloma
Acute glomerulonephritis or inflammation of the glomeruli, the filtering system of the kidneys. Many diseases can cause this inflammation including:
        §  Goodpasture syndrome.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome:  This condition results from abnormal destruction of red blood cells. It most often occurs in children after certain infections, but also may be caused by medications, pregnancy, or can occur for unknown reasons.
Post renal causes of kidney failure (post=after + renal= kidney) are due to factors that affect outflow of the urine:
§  Obstruction of the bladder or the ureters can cause back pressure because the kidneys continue to produce urine, but the obstruction acts like a dam, and urine backs up into the kidneys. When the pressure increases high enough, the kidneys are damaged and shut down.
§  Prostatic hypertrophy or prostate cancer may block the urethra and prevents the bladder from emptying.
§  Tumors in the abdomen that surround and obstruct the ureters.
§  Kidney stones. Usually, kidney stones affect only one kidney and do not cause kidney failure. However, if there is only one kidney present, a kidney stone may cause the remaining kidney to fail.
        Chronic renal failure
develops over months and years. The most common causes of chronic renal failure are related to:
        §  poorly controlled diabetes,
§  poorly controlled high blood pressure, and
§  chronic glomerulonephritis.Less common causes of chronic renal failure include:
§  Reflux nephropathy (damage caused by urine backflow from the bladder into the ureters and kidney)
        §  Nephrotic syndrome
        §  Alport's disease
        §  Interstitial nephritis
        §  Kidney stones
        §  Prostate disease

        www.karmaayurveda.com
Initially, kidney failure may be not produce any symptoms (asymptomatic). As kidney function decreases, the symptoms are related to the inability to regulate water and electrolyte balances, clear waste products from the body, and promote red blood cell production.
If unrecognized or untreated, the following symptoms of kidney failure may develop into life-threatening circumstances.
        §  Lethargy
        §  Weakness
